I wrote a more detailed response to my day in the 'cooking up goo' thread.
Okay, let's do it on Fotki then. I have it set up so that anyone can post and respond to topics.

For the curling jelly, gel, and things like that I have a question: as you know some products work better by using a lot of it (FSG, EcoStyler)...is there a general consensus of opinion yet on your stylers as far as using just a little, normal amount, or a lot of it for the desired effect? Just curious because I want to give accurate feedback.

Thanks again for letting me try them!
2aFii, low porosity, protein!

DTs: Lustrasilk SM, GVPCB
PTs: Aphogee 2-step, ION Effective Care inbetween
LIs/Stylers: Any of my COs, FSG, EcoStyler Krystal, LOOC, shea butter to SOTC

I found that the curling jelly is something I can use a lot of...like AOMM or DOC...(for me anyway) and a little (like BRHG) of the Firm Hold Gel....HTH.
$5 off first order at iherb use code KEY066
exactly what curlykey said. I use a ton of the curling jelly -- its light like AOMM (but a MUCH better curl enhancer) and the FHG I use a tiny blob of.

Thanks y'all! From the sample sizes that makes sense.

I think I'm going to try most of these products one at a time with my HGs/known products so I can make a better judgement of them. If I used them all today (tempting though!), it would be too hard to tell what actually worked and why!

I think you'll like the protein treatment peaches! My hair is like yours -- I think it would be happy with a liquid protein shake every morning.

Its too much when my hair gets rough and crunchy in the shower lol.

If your hair likes the PT's, then yea, definitely use a condish with protein. I use one every time I wash and my hair likes it.

I use a lot of the Curling Jelly, and a small blob of the FHG.

I use protein pretty often, but my hair is highlighted and really needs it. My curls form better and my hair is stronger and more elastic after I use protein. So when my curls start misbehaving, that's how I know I need to give them a dose of protein.

I followed all the instructions so only used heat with the DT. Which is also amazing.

I used the oil as a pre-poo last night and then with my LI. LOVED it! I've used jojoba before, but never used the herbs. LOVED it! Unreal slip!

I gotta say though the smell..its kind of like oregano..reminds me of herbs you'd use in spaghetti sauce or cooking. I for one would vote for fragrance or an option anyway to add fragrance to mask the smell. JMHO

Oooh, I love herbal! I didn't get a sample of this, and that's fine hehe! The only oil I've been brave enough to pre-poo with is coconut oil. And jojoba doesn't seem to do that well on my hair (I know strange), so I'm probably not the best person to try the hair oil anyway hah.

It had an awesome wicked slip to it, even after the hair is dry. THAT shocked me the most, since I'm familiar with jojoba oil. No joke, this stuff is what I had in mind to do blowouts with. Oh, and once dry, no smell at all.

Used the repairing conditioner (PT) today, wore it on damp hair for about 45 min before rinsing and COwashing with Suave. Didn't need a DT afterwards, but my porosity may have blocked a protein overload. My curls are perked up and needed a protein boost, and this definately did it! It's not as strong as ApHogee for example, but I wonder what adding heat would do? I would love for this to replace ApHogee for me. I understand not advising people to add heat, some wouldn't be able to handle it. But I got "protein ho" hair, y'all! Oh, and for my now brastrap length hair, it took the whole container to do my hair, which is very fine stranded but I have a head full of it. The viscosity of it was fine with me, I didn't have any problems with it. No drippage. Then again when you're used to fighting ApHogee, you almost have the skilz to nail jello to a tree after that!

I'd definately purchase both of these products. Advise them as well.

I actually started a thread some time ago because of the same exact problem. I was PT'ing a lot because my hair kept dropping the protein within just a few days, and then I kept reading about the big bad protein monster and how one shouldn't overdo it. Well, the protein monster is true...sort of. I found that with my hair I had 2 problems:
  1. Some of my oldest hair at the ends was beyond repair. I simply needed a cut. there was NO WAY around it. I hacked quite a few inches off. My hair grows fast, so it wasn't as big a deal to me as it is for some. Cutting the really damaged stuff out made a big difference.
  2. My hair is very fine and I liken it to the 3 person max carousels vs. the really big ones: when 2 people/proteins get off the 3 person carousel (my fine stranded hair), my hair notices a difference. A bigger carousel (coarser hair) doesn't seem to notice the difference. Best analogy I can come up with, maybe it helped! Made sense in my head anyway.
So in the end I just started purchasing PTs and looking up and trying recipes, and just had to find what worked for me through trial and error. Some weeks my hair may hold the protein a week with no issues. Sometimes I have to use a lower protein "inbetween" treatment that has some moisture to it instead of full-blown ApHogee which is hard for me to get a good moisture/emollient balance with afterwards. The ApHogee has it's place, and the inbetweens have it's place. What I used of runnerchicki's today would help extend out my ApHogee treatments, if not possibly eliminate them entirely which I would LOVE since that stuff smells!
