First few days of going CG

I should probably start of by telling you about my hair history. My hair used to be stick straight when I was younger ( I'm 19 now). I always used sulfates and cones. But in the later years my hair has become really frizzy. I thought that it was due to damage, because I have had my hair bleached several times. So basically I thought that I was a "straightie" with bad hair. So I started searching the internet and I came across a few lovely sites, such as this one, but I didn't think I belonged because I had straight hair. Anyway, I saw a before and after CG thread and noticed how frizzy many of the before pictures where. So I thought I'd try it. The first day was friday, and my hair looked a little wavy, but not nearly like you guys' hair. The next day was a big frizzy mess, but today, the third day, it has actually formed waves throughout the hair. I think I'm a 2a, with a little b. But I think I also have a weak curl pattern, because I can brush them almost completely out, as that was what I did for so many years.

So basically I'm really new to being a wavy.
Anyway I just wanted to tell anyone with hair similar to mine, that with CG you can end up in a completely different hair category than you originally thought
Welcome!

A lot of us wavies have similar stories. When I was a baby I had little ringlets at my neck then after my hair was cut they didn't come back. Then when I hit my teen years I couldn't understand why my hair was straight but frizzy. (It probably really was a little wavy but I didn't know it.) It always held a curl if I used rollers or a curling iron though. Then I noticed a bigger change after I had children and CG really brought out my curl pattern.

I'm glad CG is working for you. There are lots of helpful people on this board if you have any questions or if you want to show off your hair! (We love to see pictures btw!)
Welcome to the boards.
I also have a similar story. I had curly hair as a young kid. After that it was "straight". I call my pre CG texture naturally fuzzy. I found a post on water washing and started alternating that with shampoo. Then I came across a post on the CG method. I "didn't really have curly/wavy hair" but liked the idea of washing with conditioner vs. washing with water. Soon after I became CG and now have hair that is a bit wavier then my avitar.
I point all new people to the left side of the Girl with Curl blog. There are CG products listed there. Then you don't have to stand in the haircare aisle staring at labels (as much, always double check).

Thank you! I have found a conditioner and a gel that are CG but the problem is that I live in Denmark and a lot of those products aren't sold where I live. So I am going to use those two products until I am better at looking at the ingredients list. I don't think that CG is very well known here.
Hello and welcome! I use to have stick straight hair too when I was 7. After that, my hair became wavy.
2c, ii, medium-high porosity, coarse
I used to have stick straight hair as well until I was around 12 then it was frizzy and ugo for a while and then boom it got wavy, your not alone
Thanks for the support! you guys are so sweet here
My story sounds similar to yours, wavy as a kid, but frizzy, then straight, then later in teen years battled a stubborn wave on my crown, progressively spreading and now here I am, but...I just got tired of fighting the wave and decided to see if there was anymore potential to it, before CG it was dry and frizzy, now I have a couple ringlets in my underlayer and getting wavier 24 days CG now. I just finished reading Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey and see that she recommends a low-poo weekly for wavies... I am afraid that It'll dry my hair out again and I will have to start all over....mmmm

Good luck going wavy!!

There is no requirement to use a low poo. I don't use it, because I don't need it. There are a few other wavies on the boards who don't low poo. Since I don't low poo I avoid ingredients that have potential for build up. These things don't build up for everyone who uses then, but they will for some people.

cones- I still use water soluble PEG cones (have PEG in the name)
mineral oil
castor oil
polyquats
Here is a link on polyquats

My hair was straight until I was about 25! It just keeps getting curlier and curlier

maybe I'll be a 4a when I'm 70. hah.

I finally quit straightening it this year when I started having such a hard time keep it straight.

I'm one of those that use a low-poo all the time You just have to see how it goes for your hair.
