Confession time!

Hmm, well I'm TRYING to become CG, and I have to have around 5 products on hand, always, or else my hair gets tired and poopish and... i'm not done with some of my products with 'cones in them, and my mom wants me to finish them before she buys me a good, clean leave-in. but since there are only like 2 of them with 'cones, and i use them about once a week, I shampoo about once a week and a half.. I'm realllllly excited about going all the way CG and Natural!
I have a long list

-- I stopped using conditioner due to skin issues.

-- I use baby shampoo 3 times a week and it has SLS down the list.

-- I used to use a condish with cones when I wanted my hair to look better (and it gave me cysts )

-- I straighten sometimes to see the length. I lightly comb under the dryer and it's straight for me.

-- I don't really care for the curl/wave anymore, actually I lightly finger comb after shower to loosen because it looks longer

-- I use a comb or a denman brush whenever I feel like it, wet or dry.

-- Sometimes I wish I had straight(er) hair because it wouldn't shrink

-- ETA: When I think the henna on my front hairs got too dark or too red (happens when you try to do roots only and I like my henna orange!) I put some bleach on them for 5-6 mins. Gives me lovely natural looking highlights since the henna doesn't budge and only the natural pigment underneath gets lighter. But that bleach I use...it's not meant for the hair on your head so it's pretty harsh

Peaches-
This isn't CG, but it's a wonderful refresher for me: http://www.sallybeauty.com/Finishing...efault,pd.html. Just a thought for the hairspray users. It doesn't dry like hairspray does, thoguh. Just kind of refreshes what you already have in it.
My antiCG devil on my shoulder says I should add this to my shopping list.
Dark waves-
I don't rinse with cold water...I just don't see the difference, and I am not freezing my butt off in the shower if there isn't a noticeable difference.
The blog The Natural Haven says you don't have to rinse with cold water. I choose to believe it since I don't want to freeze.

Peda and Dark,

If I do the cold rinse (which is not all the time, but it does help me with clumps and getting rid of frizz) I do it AFTER I'm out of the shower, and take my shower head down and just lightly spray the hair with cold water. That way only my head is cold, not all of me. It's too dreadfully cold outside, otherwise.

I straighten with a flat iron occasionally, using a heat protectant with cones which forces me to use a sulfate clarifying shampoo to get the cones out.

I wash with low-poo every day.

When I dye my hair I use something out of a box rather than henna.

I touch my hair when it's wet! And dry!

I ditch CG every now and then when my hair is pissing me off.
http://unpavedpath.blogspot.com/
I touch my hair all the time, even when its drying
I've come to realize my hair loves it some poo! Now i'm pooing every 3 days, hoping to expand it to more.I no longer co-wash close to my roots and only use a tiny bit of condish, i rinse it then use teeny tiny amount of Coconut as a leave in.I PT 2x a week 2

My hair has never behaved better.

* I brush my dry hair before I shower. I figure, some hair's gonna fall out, so I'd rather catch the shed hairs in my brush than have them go down the drain before I can catch them!

* Sometimes I flat-iron my bangs. Not often lately, but if I can't get them to look good without it, I break it out.

* Count me in as another constant hair-toucher! Always have at least one hand in my hair, haha.

* I also find myself SOTC-ing while my hair's still damp. I just can never wait to get rid of that crunch!

* I also confess that still have not been able to tell the difference when I use different products. I can't tell when my hair feels moisturised or dry or how it reacts to protein, or aloe, or panthenol, or anything - you get the idea. It almost always just feels the same to me. Reading this forum, you all seem so in tune with your hair, but I haven't reached that point yet. I've tried protein, conditioners, deep treatments, coconut oil, ACV rinses - nothing makes my hair actually feel different to me. So basically, I can't tell if any of the treatments I use are doing anything. On the bright side, at least that also means I haven't had any bad reactions - everything seems like it's working just fine, as though my hair tolerates everything!

Testing too many products to list!

I've started brushing my dry hair with a Denman before I co-wash. 2-3 days worth of shed coming of in my hands in the shower is just to disgusting. It's the #1 reason I wore my hair short for nearly 10 years, and every time I have hair-covered hands I want to grab the clippers.

greetings curlies!

I've become pretty familiar with the CG methods through lots of blog reading and sopping up all the info from this site. Now that I've learned about all the bad things I used to do to my hair, I thought it would be fitting to make this my first post.

I confess that...

+ I diffuse my hair everyday. It gives my waves the best bounce, and I just don't have hours to devote to air drying.

+ Sometimes I blowdry it straight, and sometimes I even use a straightening iron on it. I like that my hair can go both ways!

+ I color my hair with the usual chemicals. When I wash the dye out, I use SLS shampoo...followed by a DT the next morning. Things are usually running normal after that.

+ I brush my hair before I get in the shower b/c I don't want a tangly, hairy mess in there. Sometimes I even brush my hair at the end of the day, and it's full of volume and cool.

Even with all these "transgressions," my hair is still softer, wavier, cleaner and more cooperative than it's ever been. It's happy, and so am I!
Okay people, when you guys say "I diffuse my hair everyday" and you think that's cheating on CG -- where does it say that you can't diffuse everyday. Or in Loraine's book does she say its best to airdry? Or are you guys just saying that diffusing everyday is bad because of the heat and it something you wanna drop out because you want your hair to be healthier?

Yeah, cause the diffuser habit ain't goin.

You know I swapped out the Curly Girl book..I don't remember what Lorraine says..but since she used cones not sure I'd care much anyway...BUT I think the general consensus seems to be use as little heat as possible.

I don't think though, outside of flat ironing (or cooking your hair as I like to call it) anything else with heat is mentioned.

I do think diffusing is part of the reason that my hair can tolerate the level of products I'm using..because I'm so dang porous it really dries my hair out if I don't use more, thicker, heavier products...does that make sense???

I use a sulfate shampoo once a week.

I use cones occasionally (usually close to when I'm going to shampoo.)

I don't cowash anymore--I just one step wash/conditioner with condish.

I wear my hair in a braid most of the time.

I think that's it.

I never straighten, though.

Brushing. I'm still experimenting to find a way to wear my hair curly without it looking a mess, so I guess this is the transition period. And if it does, and I'm in a hurry, I can't resist brushing it. It's not remotely hard to brush, but if I do (especially if I brush it before letting it dry w/products in it), bye bye individual waves. I get better shine this way too, probably due to distribution. So it's very tempting to cheat.

My favorite product (Inecto smoothing serum) has cones. (Though usually my hair hates cones!) Still looking for something cone-free that has the same effect--soft and shiny, but not glittery, if you know what I mean.

I use an SLS free shampoo every couple days, but I don't consider this to be CG cheating since Loraine makes one and sells it.

I diffuse, I don't know if that's really cheating or not.

I use Quick Curls and the second ingredient is the eeeeeevill mineral oil. Don't care.

Also, I promise, this is no reflection on anyone here, but I HATE HAAAAAAAAAATE when people say they poo their hair. It's shampoo. I don't care if Loraine calls it no poo or low poo, it's shampoo. Period. You all can continue calling it whatever you want and I will continue calling it shampoo.

I giggle to myself every time I type how I poo over here and I poo over there. This poo is better than that poo. I review my poos too. Sometimes two poos at a time!

I suppose, to be more accurate, it should be 'poo, but it's funnier if it's poo.
