Default ApHogee Keratin 2 Min. PT question.

I went to Sallys today to pick up another protein treatment. I was looking for something stronger, as the last did nothing for me and I wondered if it was because it wasn't strong enough.

I saw the ApHogee 2-step there, but being a wimp, I didn't get it with all it's instructions and "professional use only" on the back, lol. I know plenty of people here use it without issue, but it still freaks me out!

So, anyway, I picked up the ApHogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor instead. I'd heard of mention of it on here and figured it might be a good one to try.

Since getting back home, however, i've been reading up and read that they changed the ingredients to include some cones, and also saw a couple of posts by people saying that anyone who's CG shouldn't really use it.

So i'm just wondering if anyone has used it since the change of ingredients, or if anyone knows how bad it is from the ingredients. I won't type them all out (and the ingredients listed on the Sallys site are the old ones, I guess), but these are the cones in it - timethylsiloxyamodimethicone and amodimethicone. I know it has mineral oil in it too, which disagrees with some people, but i'm not too worried about that.

I'm kinda kicking myself now for not looking at the back when I was there. However I also found out today that the Walgreens 4 blocks from me sells Nexxus Emergencee... so I won't have far to go if I don't end up using the ApHogee!

I used the first treatment (the one you didn't get) once and didn't care for it, but I know a lot of people like it. Have you tried the k-pak? Emergencee is supposed to be good to, it's just a bit pricey.
Is the treatment you have for one or two uses? if it is only one or two times I would think a sulfate poo is the end of the world... for me anyways.

I didn't really care for the two minute reconstructor-the mineral oil and the cones just made my hair kind of bleh. Even washing my mop didn't really help.

The reconstructor, now, that's where it's at.

Don't be afraid of it, but do make sure you have a comfy chair and a hair dryer hood if you have very much hair. I don't, but I'm getting a hood from sally's before I do it again.

wavy - The only PTs i've tried are a homemade one, which was a bit of a disaster, lol, and Ion Effective Care. Neither made any difference at all to my hair.

I just got the 2 treatment packet. I'm just not sure if I have any sulfate shampoo anywhere! I guess I could buy a cheap one, I should probably keep one around just in case, anyway.

eklecktika - Yeah, I read that some people REALLY didn't like it. Why didn't I find those threads/posts before I bought it?!

When you say the reconstructor, do you mean the ApHogee 2-step, or the Ion repair Solutions Reconstructor? I went to Sallys with the intention of buying the Ion, but they were out of it... again!

Thank you both for the advice

Never tried Ion, I just use (and adore, if you cant tell) Aphogee.

I skip the second step (I just buy the bottle-it's cheap enough, and I get a BUNCH of treatments) and use my own deep condish afterwards. That way I don't have too many cones/mineral oil in my mop.

I love the ApHogee 2 step treatment. Be warned though, it has the same 'cones in it that you listed for the 2 min treatment (at least my 2 step bottles do). No, it is not TECHnically CG. However, I love it so much I went out and bought bottles of it.

I do not have an issue with amodimethicone. I use it sometimes. Not all the time, but in rotation (esp on a once a week PT), I don't have any issues with it. I really have to keep my scalp clean -- or I get a waxy build up on my roots. Seriously peeps, I have an oily scalp. SO I probably don't have any issue with build up, because I can't "just co-wash"

You don't have to use a sulfate shampoo to clean your hair before the apHogee. You just have to cleanse it. A low-poo will do fine.

Well boo, I wish i'd read this first - the part about not having to use a sulfate shampoo.

I did wonder. I almost used a shampoo bar instead, but figured i'd just use the sulfate shampoo as i've been having hair issues anyway, and someone had suggested it, so I went for it.

I don't seem to have an issue with amodimethicone either, that i'm aware of anyway! My leave-in has it in and I've been using that regularly for 2 months now, so I think I'm ok with it.

So this is what I ended up doing..
Sulfate shampoo (with about 1 tsp of shampoo)
PT
Rinse
Another sulfate shampoo (with another 1tsp) - I'm really hoping this wasn't a mistake, but figured it might be a safe bet with the cones and mineral oil in the PT.
ACV Rinse
No rinse out and put GFTN mixed with 2 tablespoons of honey straight on top of it and now i'm sitting here with that in my hair.

This is typical of me. I usually research everything I do and have been trying to avoid using a sulfate shampoo... and then I go and wing it and do that anyway, lol.

Now to wait and see what happens!

Thank you for the tips It makes me feel better knowing the 2 step has those cones in it too... and i'll bear in mind for next time that i don't need to use a sulfate shampoo.
