OT: Any of you gamers? (of the video kind?)

You're so right it is hard to find a guild that has a happy medium! We had to transfer servers to a new guild to find a better progression for 25 mans. There have been pros and cons. Pros so far are better. I found out that going to the WoW forums and looking at guilds and then talking with the people and sort of researching before you make a move helps. That is if you want to really get into progression raiding. Which we really like but it's not a strict ugly schedule for us.

Oh and the Materia Magica lol have fun! Read the help files and what-not. It's a totally different atmosphere. It takes serious time to build your char to get to end game. I've played it for 4-5 yrs now. Oh and lastly, No graphics... I repeat it's no graphics! LOL. It's all text!

While I think of it, very important... Horde or Alliance?

I'm reading up right now on Materia Magica. I have tried out a few MUDs before, but I don't have a whole lot of patience. Not entirely sure they're right for me! I love trying out new things, though.

Well my BF and I play Alliance, but I love the Horde. We would have played horde originally but he wanted to be a druid, but not a cow. So night elf it was! LOL We now have little toons on the horde side running around. We like it quite a bit.

and MM requires lots of patience but there is lots of ways for help and information to make it easier.

I was in the best guild ever for the first year I played. They were awesome. We raided but just casually and we're all a bunch of corny dorks so guild chat was a constant laugh.

Then life hit a bunch of us and we stopped playing as much. I haven't felt the same about playing since that guild disbanded.

Plus everyone wants to raid and progress which I'm not into. I have a very busy job. I game to escape not be told what to do, what I did wrong, where to be, etc.

I'll be curious to hear what you think of DnD. Obviously the graphics aren't as good as many others but it's free for a bunch of content and more of a challenge than most things in WoW these days.

I love the idea of a curly guild. Course I'd have to delete an alt somewhere. I'm maxed out. haha

And yeah, some of the guilds are way too nuts. When I was looking for a new guild on my server (Deathwing) I had to laugh at some of the application forms guilds had. They wanted your real name, age, what your occupation was... one even had some 'good behaviour program' in place whereby if you were high enough guild rank and attended enough raids, you were allowed to take a raiding night off!! Ridiculous.

I've got 17 hours remaining on the DnD download.. blast this stupid wireless connection.

LOL I have been absent because I'm in the middle of Mass Effect too! hubby bought it for me Tuesday and I've been MIA ever since.

ALSO!!! I didn't vote in the poll, because there was no option for "all of the above" LOL!!!

and I haven't read the whole thread, but I did see "Alliance and Horde" mentioned so I assume I'm not the only one who plays (or played in my case) WoW! I love it, I just don't have time for it anymore heh. I was an Alliance Cleric

I love RPGs (the Final Fantasy games are my favorites) and The Sims games. I don't play them much lately because they're so time consuming. I can't just play for 30 minutes. I'll sit down and suddenly realize, "Hey, it's been 7 hours!"

Okay so I had time to read through the thread!

in WoW I was a human healer I too wanted to play the Horde, but I was a late comer to the game -- my son was born right about the time WoW came out, and all our friends were alliance -- so you go with your peeps heh. I had a raiding sched of Tues and Thus night.... ugh, it got SO OLD. I dont' have a char to 80, because after the expansion came out, I just couldn't do it anymore. I didn't wanna powerlevel to keep up with my friends (DANG it, I like to read the quest text and know why I'm turning in these 8 buzzard feathers!).

Now I play a lot of console games. I love the RPGs, but have played a little of all. I also love Uncharted series (reminds me of the old Tomb Raider stuff), and Little Big Planet!

We have one of all the consoles -- no seriously. All the way back to the N64. We even have a sega dreamcast. LOL. My husband refuses to get rid of them.

My husband and I met because we were both members of a Local BBS that had 24 call in lines!! OoOOOooooOO. They met at the local bowling alley on Saturday nights for RocknBowl. No. lie. So we met in the geekiest of circumstances, I assure you.

The only MUD I played was Tele-arena (circa 1994-1995).

Hubby and I don't side by side game, he has surround sound speakers and likes to play FPS's while I try to RPG. The sounds don't mix well. LOL. I was a nervous wreck from all the gun fire.

Goober that's so awesome how you and your hubby met!!! I've been together with my BF for two yrs now. We met on from out MUD game. We talked constantly. We would sit with yahoo voice chat up and talk all night sometimes. Then he came for a visits and it clicked more and then he moved in a few months after that from TX. :x We're still together and very happy! Who knew!?

UGH the grind of leveling is awful and keeping up to date with all the new things can feel like... a job. That's when it is no longer fun. I've investigated a lot of addons for the game that makes the leveling grind much easier. WoW has implemented some really good changes lately that makes things much easier and fun. It's the one of the reasons why I've kept interested because some burdens have been eased up.

I enjoy the progression and strategy of raiding. We only do it a couple nights a week so its not all consuming. I like to mix things up so that things keep me interested.

I'd love to be able to have a console! Things have just been tight around the belt if ya know what I mean. I can imagine us sitting side by side beating up on each other in a video game and horsing around. Maybe tax time will be good to me! LOL

Seek not to change the world. Rather seek to change your mind about the world.
This post will let you know that I'm old and geeky.

I have been a gamer since my days of the Atari 2600 and before that the Commodore and those old Apple II computers with the green screen. I collect video games and systems (my baby being my Nintendo NES collection) and play them. We have over 17 systems, American, Canadian and Japanese releases, and tons of games for them. Right now, because I have little kids and don't want everything tosed everywhere, the systems that get played the most are:

Sega Dreamcast
Nintendo Wii
Playstation 2
Xbox 360
Nintendo DS & DSi
Nintendo NES
Sega Game Gear

...with the Playstation 2 and DSi seeing the most play.

I am a huge RPG gamer, so my newest games are of the Final Fantasy kind. My son is into hack-n-slash and martial arts fighters, and my daughters are heavily into Animal Crossing and Puzzle (Brain Age, Tetris, etc) type games. My kids' father is a PC gamer, so he does Everquest, WoW and those types of games. My SO is also a PC gamer too, but also plays RPG and FPS type games on Xbox.

Every guy I've ever been in a long term relationship with, such as more than 3 years, has been a huge gamer. You can always find some type of video or computer game being played at my house, which is why everyone always tries to have family gatherings here even though I'm the most imperfect host and never have the best snacks because I'm headed toward raw foodie, lol.

OT: For many years we were Card Gamers too, playing Magic The Gathering mostly.

@Madhuri - LOL I'm so glad I'm not the only one! My ex was a super gamer and we played all sorts of table tops and MTG. I can honestly say that MTG is the biggest money sink ever. We use to do competitions and such. Anyways, since my split I haven't gamed in that way for a long time. Now it's mostly video gaming.

@Euterpe - HOW AMAZING!! I love hearing about relationships that build that way! You took an in creditable risk movng to America and it's awesome. What's life w/o following your heart. I'm a hopeless romantic.

And you're right. Finding the right guild is what makes the game. The right people what brings joy to playing an online MMO with other people imo. MY old guild (Unity on Velen) has some fantastic people. My bf and I took a little trip to a party that our guild leader was having. She got a promotion in the coast guard and she was going to move so before that she wanted to have a party and invite guildies. I think about 15 of us showed up for the weekend even some people from Canada! We had a blast! It was really cool to meet so many new people. It made such a great bond. It really was hard when the bf and I had to leave, but we keep in touch still.

@Whats Carbonite is the best!! It's such a great utility! Right now I'm on a project to figuring out Grid. My main is a hunter.... I never needed grid, but I have a little healer and I thought I better start getting familiar with it. Besides truth be told, I am an addon addict!

It really does. You're so lucky to have found that in WoW. I found that in City of Heroes, but I don't think I ever ran across a guild on our WoW server that was that close. That's awesome!

In CoH we had such a tight knit group, we had a couple of meet ups with about 10 people each time and it was just so much fun. We'd game hop together trying new things out.. which made new games so much fun, too. That's actually how we got in to WoW, with a group of us from CoH trying it out. We all still keep in touch despite no longer playing any games together and will probably always keep in contact with each other.

I was never a complete addon addict. I couldn't understand some of my friends that could barely see what was happening in game for all the addons they had! I just stuck to the regular ones - Carbonite, DBM (though i didn't care too much to have such an easy time of things, but both guilds I was in required people have it), Omen, Recount, Gatherer, Auctioneer, Decursive.

Talking about all this is really making me want to play again!

My hubby plays WOW quite a bit and i hear him talk about it a lot so does that count?

anyone want to share their character names etc to hook up and help each other.

FYI, my hubby loves to help out and is an awsome tank and healer. Loves to help wherever. he had a hard time getting people to run him through dungeons when he was a beginer to level 70. he is great at helping a hand if you are trying to get better gear and stuff. he doesn't chat much on there so i do it and make friends for him to play with.

LOL I bet it does seem like Greek to people who have no idea what we're talking about. LOL.

Just think of World of Warcraft as a Massive video game that incorporates the SIMs, Action/RPG, and lots of awesome visuals that you can play with other people together and have a really fantastic time with it.

The two websites posted before are great sources to read up on it.

And Euterpe, I know what you mean about the addon clutter. I hate a lot of clutter which can happen with all of those buttons and such you need on your bars so most of my addons deal with giving me space and more screen visuals. My entire interface is a rewrite. I can't even use WoW's regular interface now that I've been spoiled lol
