someone else can correct me if I'm wrong...

But I don't THINK hairspray is strictly non-CG. It's mostly just hard it's hard if not impossible to find some without any silicones.

Beyond that, hairspray has always been really drying in my hair, and that might be some of what makes people think it's not "CG approved".

like anything else, used in moderation it should be fine. if there are silicones in it, you might need to use a sulfate to remove them though. It just depends on the silicones and what's in the conditioner you cowash with. Sometimes silicones can be removed without the harsher sulfates.

If I'm wrong, some one let me know. Here is what I think I know.
According to the CG rules from the book, drying alcohol is not allowed. What makes most hair sprays function is the drying alcohol. It is what makes the hairspray dry quickly. It also drys out the hair.
I believe there is one hairspray out there (I forget the product) that is CG with no drying alcohols and no cones. However, a hairspray that does not dry quickly would not do the things most people want hairspray to do.
P.S. I plan on using an occasional spritz of cone free hairspray. I just haven't picked one up yet.

Oh. Okay. I don't see why this stuff has to be so complicated....

lol, I think it's only complicated if you let yourself get hung up on the labels

It's been my experience that I can deviate from strictly CG, and use silicones in products and shampoo occasionally without any significant or even noticiable damage to my hair. In fact, sometimes it's just nice to change things up a bit, and start from a clean slate with a little bit of shampoo/soap bar/low poo, etc.

Do what's best for your hair. That might mean being strictly CG, but if you find a product you love that your hair loves, don't worry about maintaining that CG label. Everyone's different and needs different things.
