swollen glands...

If you have discolored mucus then yes they're right you have a bacteria infection in your sinus that needs antibiotics.

Some things that can help with symptoms however. Sudafed Its the only medicine left that didn't change their medicine ingredients when the FDA was making changes because people abusing cold meds to make meth. Anyways Sudafed can only be gotten from your pharmacy and I think you can only get up to 4 boxes.

Mucinex will help dry out your sinus and the mucus and there is always good old Vic vapor rub.

Suck on some peppermint before you eat anything. It'll help with being able to taste your food. Also put drop a peppermint in your hot tea. It'll feel good going down. Drink lots of WARM liquids. It'll help prevent coughing if you are.

I hope you feel better soon!! Don't wait too long to get to a doc. Sinus infections have a nasty way of moving down into your chest.

Lots of rest for you! Or try to!

Feel better soon!

I went to dr yesterday and no sinus infection had developed. It's just i'm feeling worse today but when i blow my faucet it's clear.
there's a lot of speculation on how effective antibiotics really are against sinus infections at any rate... so *shrug*

my throat's still sore, minor minor minor nasal congestion but no icky colors. Maybe it's just the drainage (that seems to be the general consensus) but I've never had my throat hurt so bad just because of the sniffles...

It could be just a common cold then. Your glands could be swollen because of irritation. For example you could be snoring at night because you're so stuffed up and that would irritate things.

Are you running a fever? Thats a biggy generally. If you're running higher than a low grade fever might wanna see that doc again. If it's just a small one hopefully it's just a cold.

Sudafed- here in CA, I can only buy 1 box of Sudafed at a time. There are 2 types of Sudafed now- the real stuff- Pseudoephedrine and the PE.

Nasal Irrigation- If you're congested, have you considered nasal irrigation? It sounds weird, feels weird at first but is better than any medications available.

I've had multiple lymph node infections - swollen glands can mean a lot more than just strep or mono. If they get any more swollen or painful, get to the doc ASAP. the infections can get really nasty really quickly. But, if they seem to be tender but Ok, just use a warm compress to help things drain and keep an eye on your temp.

I didn't know there was two kinds of Sudfed now. That's pretty wild that Cali allows only one box. Pretty sad that we have to monitor or change cold medicines because people turn it into a horrible drug. :/

Wavy, I'd stay away from Afrin. Personally I don't like the stuff because I always ended up worse off if I used it. See, with me, I used it to help me deal with my stuffy nose and work, and weeks later I was way worse off. I almost lived on it for a while, like a junkie. It's pretty addictive stuff. Also, I'm not convinced it's not an irritant all on it's own which is the last thing a stuffy nose needs. Second, as you start to "come down" from it, you irritate your sinuses/nasal linings further by trying harder to inhale..snorting air for a lack of a better way to put it. That's just my two cents anyway. I hope I didn't come off offensively, just throwing out my ideas for you to ponder and hopefully find a resolution to your illness. Hope you get better soon!

I'm sure it is just the common cold but man this is one of the worst colds I've ever had.

A few of my friends recommended Afrin. One of my friends , I think said to only use to 3 days . After that , it'll start working against you. But damn, this is the ONLY thing that is opening me up. It might not even be afrin. It's walgreens something or other... does the same thing, I'm sure. It gives me a headache, I believe.
thanks everyone.
I do have a cold sore, but I believe I get cold sores quite often (especially right before AF, although, I just had two weeks ago, AF that is) so anyways, I feel pretty bad today. Yesterday I was feeling better, but today I have a lot of the stinging sinus pain. I got some afrin, which really helped to open the sinus. Went to dr yesterday , I was taking my son anyways, so figured I would get check out too. It was just viral. But dr said if it got worse i might be getting a sinus infection. I just don't know what signs to looks for. Like i said my sinus are feeling worse today. But nt sure if it was the afrin that is kinda making them flare up. I'm a mess
Tylenol sinus does zip, zero, zilch for me. i need the hardcore stuff that they don't make anymore.

My favorite natural remedy with cold or upper respiratory infections is Emergen-C powder from GNC or sometimes at Wal-mart. The vitamin C seems to help shorten the length of my colds. The raspberry tastes awesome.
