AJJ
I was reading your blog this morning and you talked about companies using the same ingredients and people passing off not homemade as homemade. What was that in regards to? Is there a thread on the hair board?

I was just being annoyed at myself too for missing the deadline of the DoC coupon. Now I am glad I did, that's a shame to misrepresent yourself and your products like that.

OK I'm a little confused why is everyone so mad about DOC but then a company like Jasmine's does the same thing and it's OK? There are countless others too those are just 2 examples.

I'm not familiar with Jasmine's, but I think everyone was mainly upset with the DoC product because she pretty much leads you to believe she developed these products in her apartment kitchen (based on her "about" section on her site).
She obviously didn't "develop" these in her kitchen unless she considers adding EO's to simple aloe jelly developing her own line.
If she represented herself just as she was in the first place I don't think people would be upset because a lot of people do that.

I have no clue who Jasmine's is, so I can't think anything about them. As to other companies who misrepresent themselves as being people who make this stuff by hand, I would be just as disappointed in them as I am in DoC. DoC is just the one that I specifically know of. If you know of others, feel free to name them and I will happily be disappointed in them to.

Here's the thread about Jasmines
Jasmines Bath and Beauty Products
The owner of Jasmines doesn't go as far as saying she created the line in her own kitchen. She just says that her products are made in "small" batches. At one point something was said about her conditioning pellets no longer being available from her supplier so she had to discontinue a product. Using pellets doesn't seem to be the same thing as using a pre-made base though, does it?

Lots of discussion.
I am not upset at bases, per se. In fact I use a product that I love that is a base plus added protein's. I'm fine with that.
I was upset because of the companies making it sound like it is all done from scratch as a mixtress--and ending up with 2 of the exact same product (except scent).
So I'm not upset specifically with Jasmine's (I already knew her stuff was likely a base because of the pellet's stuff..that is really a base and, in her case, I don't think she added anything. Pellets are different as they have to be melted down and then stuff added if you like..they come like soap shavings or in pellet's or whatever). I was not even upset with Amourai Organique (because I had actually not read the part about mixing it up by hand) I was upset with another company as she most 100% definitely gave an interview that said she mixed it all herself. When I asked why the ingredients were the exact same as the Essential Wholesale ingredients she said she copied the recipes and made them her own. While this is possible the fact I had the exact same everything (except scent) and they acted exactly the same in my hair .. I chose to not purchase any longer from that vendor.
Others were upset about bases just because the company used bases. That was never my take on it nor my problem....my issue was only how to identify these companies so I didn't get another set of 2 products exactly the same (this happened with 3 different companies overall). In the end I decided to not bother at all...and only buy from those I know of personally. Like runner's new line or CurlJunkie or Jessicurl, Darcy's Botanicals and so on.
There are a few other vendor's I'll buy pieces from but overall it just made me bummed as I didn't get teh unique products I thought.

I don't think everyone is happy with Jasmine's, DEL. As far as I know, a lot of people who know where she gets the base from are now ordering it from the place that sells the base. hah. Also, I think most peeps thought Jasmine did a little tinkering, but come to find out all she does is scent it. So, while there is some support for her, I don't think everyone plans on continuing to order from her.
Hey Gekko, if you look at my Essential Wholesale thread (to lazy to link it right now, but that should come up on the google), there is a post up at the top that does a comparison of some companies and their products.
And +1 to what AJJ said. I'm not so much angry at AO, because she wasn't claiming to mix every batch lovingly by hand. But wow, some of the other companies are basically committing fraud.

I think that because she never says she hand makes everything people have different expectations, they were not misled. I'm assuming that using pellets is a little different, but probably not that much.
Personally, if it works I don't care how it is made, BUT if you are using a base I'd like to know. Some people use a base and add other ingredients, not just EO's. With DoC it seems all she added is an EO. I'm not sure I care about the scent that much, I'd rather buy 1/2 gallon on essential wholesale (for about $7 cheaper per 8oz) and use it for multiple things, maybe even add my own EO's for different uses (actually thinking of using an EO to make my own bug repellent that is safe for my son...need to do more research though).
