New LOVE-green smoothies!

Hello Type 2 ladies..

Thanks for all the recipes! I love the idea of green smoothies since I'm not a big veggie or salad eater. Seems like you can get a day or two's worth of veggies into you in just one blender full of smoothies.

Edited to add: Okay it's lunchtime now and I stopped at the store to grab some veggies to test out my green smoothie.

I have these ingredients in my smoothie:

spinach
fresh mint leaves
parsley
clove of garlic
banana
apple
orange juice
water

No sugar added and it's pretty tasty! I can definitely get with this.

My staples: Mane n Tail (cowash), Garnier Fructis Sleek n Shine (leave in condish), Grapeseed oil or shea butter (sealing), Organic Root Stimulator Elasticitea (leave-in condish & light hold)

I use milk and coconut milk, it's a great way to get in my calcium since I drink plenty of water.

Love the idea of mint leaves!! What do you mix the mint with?

I did:

mango
handful of spinach
almond milk
a little (toomuch) apple cider vin.

so it tasted like an apple and it was bright green.

Good, but too much green apple taste, thanks apple cider vinegar.
yayyy I just bought all of my supplies for making green smoothies. I started small and got some rainbow chard, spinach, frozen strawberries, pineapple, and mango (all the frozen fruit that was available)... and bananas. I'm allergic to everything related to the birch tree, apples, pears, plums, peaches, pears, almonds (the WORST) so I have to pick more "tropical" fruits.

I'm really excited to do this daily so I can stop my sweet cravings!

hahahahhaha my green smoothie is NOT green, it's brown?

I used daily wavy's base recipe...

spinach stuffed to the 3 cup mark w/ water
frozen strawberries
frozen pineapple
1 banana
spoonful of virgin coconut oil
spoonful of honey

I think I mentioned this earlier but I'm allergic to apples, peaches, plums cherries, yada yada yada, so I have to stay away from them. I've heard I can microwave the fruit for 20 seconds and it will kill the enzyme (brich tree pollen).

anyways, is it my crappy blender that didn't blend the greens up enough and made it brown? It sure is yummy!!!!

kayaelle, about the brownness, I bet it's just the mix of stuff you use. Spinach and strawberries would probably make brown. I will be making a smoothie, it'll be a pretty bright green colour, then I toss in a handful of frozen raspberries and BAM ugly brown. Tasty, though! Try adding the strawberries last, it'll probably be green until you add them in.

Yesterday I had a smoothie with:
spinach
1 frozen banana
1 Granny Smith apple (I love the tartness they add!)
frozen fruit mix of peaches, mango, cantaloupe, kiwi, and pineapple
frozen raspberries
wee bit o' fresh cilantro

Yum! And today, I drank the other half of yesterday's. Still just as yummy the next day. Frozen fruits are awesome in smoothies. I am still loving these!

Kayaelle -- (I'm bizarre I know), but are you allergic to "Drupe fruits?" Or all fruits with a stone in the middle? Or is it just the specific ones you mentioned?

Just curious. I read about Drupe Fruit allergy the other day and didn't know that people could be allergic to fruits with that specific kind of "stone". I know apples aren't drupe fruits, but was just wondering.

INTERESTING because... I'm allergic to most things associated w/ the birch tree pollen such as: apples, pears, peaces, plums, nectarines, cherries, almonds walnuts... I think there are a few more but those don't bother me.

so a lot of those look like drupes, huh?

My blender is on it's way out... well it's dead. one of the rainbow chard leaves was caught on the blade and didn't even blend. my coconut oil is in big chunks and my fruit is chunky. I'm basically chewing my smoothie, lol. the blender STINKS when I use it.

Any blender recs? My blender is probably 5-6 years old but I know that blenders are better at blending ice than they were a few years ago...

so when we first started the green smoothie thing we also were starting to potty train my little boy. so i had him running around without pants on. when it was time for the smoothie and (yes it was brown) i plopped him on a chair and gave him a smoothie in a little cup and straw and told him to stay there to eat it. a few minutes later all i heard was "uh oh! uh oh! uh oh!'' i look over and he is squating over a brown mess totally looked like diareha. i almost threw up in my mouth. but then his cup tipped and i quickly realized it was just his smoothie!

since then i make sure i put enough berries or beet greens or a little bit of a beet to color it dark purple.

i sure hope i didn't ruin it for anyone!

hot pink breakfast smoothie:
milk from a young thia coconut (trust me it make a difference if you use regular coconut milk)
1/4 beet peeled
1 large carrot cut it into pieces or use 5-6 baby carrots
1/4 c. cashews
1/4 c. chopped dates
2 tsp vanilla
12 frozed strawberries or a cup of rasberries

blend all ingredients well except for strawberries blend those in after everything else is pureed. it works better.

sounds gross i know, but so did drinking spinach right?

*450 calories, four servings of fruits and veggies great protein and healthy fats. oh and if you didn't like it you didn't make it right... the first time i had to substitute some things and it ended up tasting like an old lady. enough said.

HAHAHA Daily wavy! that's a cute story. With my blender breaking yesterday, my smoothie resembled something like that too... lol!!

I had gum rafts done so I've been relying on my blender to eat my daily fix of PB. I LOVEEEEEE PB and I have it on toast every morning for breakfast (although this might change after I get green smoothies into my routine). I really want to make a banana PB smoothie... I might try it. all of the frozen fruit was too much for the blender to handle yesterday, but I'm hoping/thinking/praying that bananas and milk won't be hard for it. I can tell the motor is about to blow.

I'm looking at this blender w/ a glass pitcher: http://www.chefscatalog.com/product/...sku=25550-WHTE

I guess the standard kitchenaid one now comes with a polycarbonate pitcher... and I try to stay away from plastic (polycarbonate has BPA).

Does anyone have a decent blender for $100 or less w/ a glass pitcher?

Dr. Oz shared his version of a high fiber-low fat green drink on his 100th episode:

Ingredients
2 cups spinach
2 cups cucumber
1 head of celery
1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
1 bunch parsley
2 apples
Juice of 1 lime
Juice of 1/2 lemon

Directions
Combine all ingredients in a blender. This makes approximately 28-30 ounces, or 3-4 servings.

I'd add a couple of scoops of whey protein powder (and a couple of teaspoons of flax oil) to this to make it the perfect meal!
