Default Porosity confusion

Alright, I feel a bit silly having to ask this because I've been natural for almost 3 years and typically have my hair figured out, but whatever. I have hair that has always been considered porous, even with relaxers. It seems to give up the moisture easily, sucks up moisture like it's nothing...typical high porosity stuff. However, I ran my fingers up my hair strands for the first time (i'd been running them down before, all wrong lol) and my cuticle felt smooth, closed and made squeaking noises! I was surprised because my hair's so dense and coarse that I didn't imagine there could be anything smooth about it 😜. My hair takes forever to dry but it also takes forever to be wet all the way through when I go to wash it and hold my head under the water. Could it be possible that all this time I've actually had low porosity hair and not known it?

If I explained this badly i'm sorry, it's like 6am and I've been up since 3. Lol
