CG isn't so much about following a set of hard and fast rules as much as it's about learning how to make your hair look and feel its best.
Learning what works best for your hair may not be about following a set of rules, but CG is. CG stands for Curly Girl: The Handbook, which gives us a set of rules for curly hair care. Follow it or don't follow it, whichever works for you, but if you're not following it, you're doing something else, not CG.

FWIW, in reference to another poster, I have hair with the substance of cobwebs, and CGing does work for me. I agree with you that it may be a matter of technique.
