My hair does not like baking soda but loves vinegar.
For a major detangling I put conditioner in my hair and finger comb it a little then add a vinegar rinse (a few tbl of cider or white vinegar in a mug of warm water) without rinsing out the conditioner. The 2 things combined seem to really help make my hair slippery and easy to detangle.
