it was also lowered literally overnight by the stroke of a pen about 15 years ago after intense lobbying by the diet industry.

a 5 foot 4 inch woman is considered to be at the high end of "normal" at 140 pounds, veering into overweight at 145 pounds and obese at 174 pounds.

this doesn't take into consideration age, bone density or body fat composition.
