I forgot to mention that I kept my ovaries. While I was happy to have the uterus gone, I didn't want to lose any working, healthy body parts. I changed physicians and the new one was appalled that I had been given the choice of keeping them. She said the research and history is that there is a higher incidence of breast cancer in women who didn't have ovaries removed with hysterectomy. I was appalled that she actually tried to talk me into having them removed.
