I've worked in a lot of restaurants where we made relatively simple food, but nope, I don't think a lot of home cooks can do it as well or better. Believe it or not, some of us are in fact skilled at what we do.
It's no slight against home cooks and their ability to make great food, just that there's such a thing as technique employed. If you feel you can do it better than the food you eat out all the time, then maybe pick better restaurants? And again, I don't know why people equate better to expensive or high end.
