Ditto the above. You can't wash out a relaxer, but you don't have to do the big chop either. I didn't, and I started transitioning the beginning of 2011 and am now all natural. You do have the option of trimming off the relaxed ends as the new growth comes in. When I was transitioning, my relaxed ends broke off at a certain point (which was why I had major breakage) I retained most of my length.
