It depends. Coconut oil IS protein rich, but some hair responds well to it and others don't. For example, my hair likes coconut oil in small doses. The only proteins I can use like there's no tomorrow are hydrolyzed proteins and amino acids. Coconut oil, silk protein, whatever ones I'm forgetting to list I can get away with...sparingly.

That being said, my favorite shea moisture product (besides the shampoo) is the curl and hold style milk. It has both coconut oil and silk protein but I can use it in rotation with other stuff and as long as I don't use it every. Single. Day, then it's fine.
