Have you tried using a moisturizing product under the gel? For example for me using Shea moisture ce smoothie under olive oil ecostyler makes a huge difference and my hair isn't dry. So using a whipped butter or some kind of moisturizing curl cream may help it not to be so dry and the gel is just used for hold
