I actually have no experience dealing with curly hair at all. My hair was permed when I was 8 years old and I'm 18 now. I stopped perming my hair about 2 years ago. I have been slowly cutting of the damaged relaxed hair because I was afraid to undergo a full on chop. So now I have a head filled with un-normal curly hair that I do not understand. Literally; who's hair goes from curly, to a broom in the course of maybe 3 hours. It doesn't dry into curls it dries into strands of hay (as my pictures demonstrate)

I have to do so much research about what type of hair I have.
But actually speaking to people about this is making me feel like I am getting some support so thanks guys.
Oh, yes – we're here to help!

I understand that you were scared to do a big chop. Microtrims as you go along are a good way to go about it.

I wonder if one way to wear your hair curly is to do a braid-out? Secrets to a Mean Braid Out! | Curly Nikki | Natural Hair Styles and Natural Hair Care I've never done one myself, but I know folks who are transitioning find it useful to give their hair some shape. Also, that Curly Nikki blog is really great.
