I have the same thing.. my hair is fine/medium and I don't think I have a lot of it but it ends up looking super thick and puffy after it dries. What has really helped is by using two good quarter sized dollups of rich conditioner as leave in. Coconut oil in wet hair also helps. The ULTIMATE though is this recipie by IAgirl FSG Curl Cream! because it somehow added ALOT of weight to my hair. The only reason why I don't use this as much anymore is because I find FSG a pain to make and keep fresh... but I tell you that recipie is worth a shot. Perhaps if you don't have fsg you can substitute it with another type of gel.
