It sounds like you're getting something out of this arrangement even though it's not ideal - a bargain is nothing to scoff at
... Just a gentle piece of advice though, about offending stylists: if hair-related questions ever offend a stylist, that's excellent info. It means you aren't respected as a customer and it's time to fire the person (assuming it wasn't just a bad day for her, resulting in a strident apology). This person works for you, not the other way around.
