There is definitely truth to this. The two demographics I see the least (old white people and white males) I tend to get mixed up unless there is something distinct about their faces. But then again, I'm awful with remembering people's names and if someone was in a minority, I'd use their race as an easy thing to recall who is who. If not a minority I'd use something else distinctive like short hair, so if there were two people with short hair I could get them mixed up, even if their faces were vastly different. I tend to use age, race and hair as my 'markers' and sometimes glasses.
