Thick bangs here!!
I am a 2a/b and as long as I comb or brush my bangs straight while wet, I don't have any problems. Since I cut my bangs every 3 - 4 weeks, there really isn't a problem for me to use heat tools. I figure that I am trimming away any damage that is caused by my curling iron.
Bangs are a commitment, though. If you ever decide in the future to grow them back out, it's a looooooooong process. (Especially when cut thick.) There are clip-in bangs if you just wanted to change up your look temporarily without having to cut your hair first. HTH!
