Default Winter shedding is freaking me out!

I am experiencing excessive shedding this winter. I usually minimize the shedding using AVG but nothing seems to be working in this cold. Oiling the scalp helps a lot bcz my scalp is dry but who wants to sport oily hair during christmas right?
please let me know if you have any suggestions. Is this kind if shedding normal in winter or must I consult a doctor? any kind if advice would be great ladies, thanks.
