I'm a dedicated mac user, but I got tired of needing or wanting every new (expensive) gadget available. However, I wanted an ereader once I noticed that books I have to wait for from the library are often immediately available in the Kindle/ePub format.

I wound up buying an inexpensive iRulu Knightpad, which I still don't fully utilize, but at $105 with tax, as long as it downloads books, I'm satisfied. It's an android format, so I've spent time educating myself about androids as a result. (There are good, informative websites on the subject.) It does have a camera, and I can get email. I believe I could watch movies as well (don't know how to set that up yet).

If I needed or wanted greater flexibility, however, I would have gone with an iPad, for compatibility reasons.
