Only place I've read that low porosity hair doesn't like protein is on nc.com. My fine/low porosity hair never met a protein it didn't like. So, you may not want to steer clear of protein unless your hair is coarse.
Can't help you with products. I use things that I buy online. Just read some of the threads about drugstore products. Find people with similar properties and see what products they use that you might be able to buy.
