Of course I read this post as washing hair before dying as in kick the bucket! I thought, now there's a new one on me - that's about as OCD as anyone can get!
I never wash my hair first, but I only dye the grey roots as they come in. If you are using a permanent dye, supposedly you need only wash your hair if it has an awful lot of gunk in it. Otherwise, it's not necessary. Or so I've read.
