I wouldn't worry about your speed or the number of books you read in a year. Try to establish a time when you're comfortable reading, like before bed or at lunch --- whenever.
It's a habit, like any other. Don't pressure yourself, and don't worry if it takes you a little while to get into it. Sometimes it's good to start with books of stories, instead.
