Default Can your hair get thicker if you treat it better?

Just a little background:

I have fine, low-density hair. But for many years I brushed my hair and detangled my wet hair without any conditioner or anything, and I always found that I lost a lot of hair every day.

For the last 6 weeks, I haven't brushed my hair and have only detangled my hair when wet and soaked with conditioner. I've noticed that I'm losing a lot less hair per day now!

So what I'm wondering is, does this indicate that my hair may be thin because I was essentially yanking so much of it out for years? Now that I'm treating my hair better might my hair get thicker? I'm nearly 30, so if my hair WAS thicker 10 years ago it could be an aging thing , and I know there aren't any definitive answers, but I'm curious to know if anyone's hair has gotten a bit thicker since they started treating their hair better.

Any opinions would be appreciated!!
