I think it's better that you think about if for a longer time. Highlights are cute, but they need touch ups at least once in 3/4 months (and most people do touch ups more often) and they can indeed damage the hair (and your wallet).
But, think about it before you do it. Highlights will damage your hair, even if you care for it very good it will make your hair more porous and dry. Especially fine&curly hair is prone to damage. And if you want to grow them out, it will take a couple of years. Yes, YEARS! :O
If you want highlights, it's very important that you chose a stylist that NEVER put bleach on the hair that's already bleached. I'm afraid that most stylist do that anyway, so talk about it with him/her before you let him/her do it.
