The roots of my hair have been oily since I was a young teen, but the ends have only been this dry since I first used a demi-perm hair color this past December. My roots are like the Persian Gulf and my ends are like the Sahara Desert. I wash my hair every other night, but I need to use dry shampoo on the second day.

I'm currently using Suave Professionals Rosemary and Mint shampoo and conditioner, which seem to be working all right.

I picked up sulfate-free, silicone-free, and paraben-free Nature's Gate Shampoo in Tea Tree formula. I already had it in my mind that I wanted to go CG friendly, because I had a suspicion that the sulfates were the culprit. The reason I had continued to use that Sauve Rosemary & Mint as long as I did was because I loved the scent, EVEN though I read negative reviews about it causing scalp problems on Amazon. Now I'm pretty darn sure of it, because once I switched to Nature's Gate and started conditioning with cone-free (various brands: VO5, Tresemme Naturals, Loreal EverCurl, GVP Joico Hair Reconstructor (like Joico K-Pak)), my scalp has not been oily or itchy. I don't wash every day, and this is almost a miracle to me, but my scalp is not greasy on the end of the second day, and I can go a third day if I wanted to, and my hair doesn't even smell badly.

Now, I do wet my hair most days and comb in some conditioner, and either rinse it out or leave it in or a little of both, so it's getting rinsed usually. But even on a day like today (on which I did not wet my hair), my hair is not greasy and it's the end of the second day!

I just wanted to share my personal experience with the shampoo you've been using. I think it's too harsh and may be inflicting at least some of the issues you've been having with your roots and scalp.

Best wishes!
Started embracing the 2b waves in March 2013. I can't believe how immediate the difference, when I stopped using sulfates! Now I need guidance on most everything else.
My best guess so far at my hair profile: 2b, medium porosity, fine and med width strands, low-to-med density, medium length.
