I do DTs and pre-poos/cleanse of extra virgin olive oil or extra virgin (unrefined) coconut oil. I just rake some in my hair dry, leave for 1/2 hr or so (or longer if needed) and then low-poo or cowash it out.

Are you cowashing or low-pooing? It does sound like protein overload, so I'd say cut out proteins for a little while and see if that helps. I think it's good to have a good LI if you're feeling super dry (or RO that you can use as an LI) and try sealing w/ an oil.
