The most important aspect of good hair care is understanding the basics. This is a good place to start:

Next you should figure out your hair properties. Figuring them out will help you best select products for your hair. Once you think you got them, you can look around the boards for members with similar hair (look at the siggies) and see what they're using.
If your hair is dry, you'll need to start doing some deep treatments (DTs). Some home-made, inexpensive treatments include olive oil + honey, coconut oil, or a very moisturizing conditioner with a bit of oil added (I would recommend olive or coconut). You can search for recipes or products on this site.
Do visit the newbies section and read the stickies there. It will have lots of useful information!
