It's basically a form of conditioner-only styling. You shampoo the scalp only, then use conditioner (any conditioner; the TC method doesn't avoid cones) to define each curl, one by one. So, you put loads of condish in your hair, then run your fingers from the root to the tip of each curl unit (i.e. each clump).
