Just an update... It is so difficult to style waves to be neither clumpy nor stringy. wavydaze.... Now that I've been experimenting I totally get what you mean!

Basically I have been raking in leave in, raking in some gel, and then scrunching in more gel. Sometimes I get nice soft waves and sometimes I get a stringy mess. There's no consistency. Guess its back to the drawing board.

So far the best results have been simply scrunching in my leave in and styler into soaking wet hair... And scrunching very little. Doesn't encourage too much clumping and I don't get stringy-ness.
