low-porosity hair actually does fine with protein. It's usually the width of hair that will tell you how much protein you need (fine = lots, coarse = not so much)

You may need to clarify if you have buildup. Afterward I'd recommend a PT (I love the gelatin PT). You could probably use some products with protein as well in your regular routine.
