I get these all the time... What I've realised is that I need to use leave in conditioner. That helps a lot. Even if I don't need to detangle the rest of my hair more than once a week, my nape-part needs it at least every third day to not go horribly bad. With leave in in, I can just pinapple the rest of my hair, use a spray bottle and then detangle smaller things. More issues equals some extra conditioner, but as this hair seems to be soaking everything up I usually don't need to rinse anyway.

Try to figure out how often you need to detangle, you might well find that you need to do it more often than the rest of the hair. This part rubbs against clothes etc and just due to the friction it is more likely to form tangles.
