Are my ideas about locs right?

One of my nephews and some cousins have locs and what I notice is they
take work, if you want them to look reasonably neat, to smell agreeable and if you want to prevent mold from moisture getting trapped from within the hair (like from water trapped in the locs from swimming or even a basic hair rinse). The amount of twisting that needs to be done each day (for at least the first few months) is time consuming, depending on the number of locs you have.
I hope some people with more knowledge about this help you out, and if I said anything wrong, will set me straight.
