I've read often that regular trimming (every month or few months) or even a big chop is necessary to get rid of heat damage so your hair can grow better.

But I was wondering, can you also reach your goal length easily (e.g. mid-back or waist) when you don't trim your damaged hair that often (like only once in a half year or less)?
I would like to hear your experiences
