I don't know. I like people who are not self conscious in public. I don't see a need to be intentionally obnoxious or rude, but I also do not see a need to be as quiet as a church mouse so you do not disturb others in a public space. But I do live in a small town and it is highly likely that you will run into people you know or other people that know each other standing around talking.

The last time I went to the doctor a man was telling everyone in the office (he knew several people there) about his former co worker who was addicted to meth and stole $17,000 from him. I was giggling watching the 80 year old women turning up their hearing aids, listening and gasping. I know they went home and called every one they knew.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??
