OK, I hope this post makes sense! I am a caucasion 3B (w/ a few 3Cs mixed in, I think). I met an 11 year old (mixed) 3C (I think) who I really would like to help with her curls. A friend of mine is her 'mentor' (in the girl scouts) and obviously knows her much better than I do. I just met her and I love her curls and I was really sad to hear that she thinks straight hair is better. I would really like to help her love her curls.
I think that she likes it straight because she thinks that straight hair is easier to manage. She told me that she gets up at 5 am every day just so that she can wash her hair! Obviously my first piece of advice was that she does not need to wash it every day, but I would like to give her some ideas that she can use at night so that she can do her hair more easily in the am.
I don't know what her routine is yet, but I know that she usually wears her hair in a pony tail and I know that she uses 'grease'. I was thinking of buying her Curly Girl for starters. After she has read it I wanted to help her come up with some products that she can afford (definitely drugstore) .
If I can swing it I may send her a CurlMart care package to help get her started, but then again I don't want to buy her things that she will love and not be able to re-purchase. Maybe a giant bottle of Elucence because it would last her a loong time. So far my drugstore list would include Creme of Nature shampoo and a good suave conditioner. I am not sure what to suggest for a gel/leave in etc.
Although my hair is almost as curly as hers mine is *very* fine and thin so I don't think that what works on my hair would work on hers. I gave her the Oyin whipped pudding
that was too heavy for my hair and I think that she liked it.
Sorry for rambling here! Basically, I guess I am looking for products/routines to suggest to her. I want her to love her curls and take good care of them and get some sleep at the same time.
