Questions about the Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment

Hey Curlies!

I recently found out that my hair protein! It curls so beautifully for me now. I've been using Aphogee 2-Step Protein Treatment. It's pretty inexpensive and I can purchase it from Sally's which is like 5 minutes from my house.

However, the Aphogee calls for you to wash your hair with their shampoo, which I'm assuming is chockful of silicones and whatnot. To save on money, I use my boyfriend's Tresemme shampoo to wash my scalp and hair. It's like a nickel-size dollop that I use, but it still makes my hair incredibly squeaky clean.

After I do the protein treatment and the pH balance (which also has silicones) I do a deep treatment for an hour with olive oil, Suave conditioner, and honey. I'm wondering if that shampoo and pH balance will like damage my hair overtime. Right now I do this whole process once a week, but I may reduce the frequency if I need to.

What are your suggestions as far as shampooing and the pH balance? Has anyone used the Aphogee 2 Step Treatment? Oh and is my homemade deep treatment good enough or should I invest in a professional deep treatment?

All suggestions/answers are welcome! Thanks guys!!

i was just at sallys today and i saw that lol.

I'm not exactly sure on what it is but maybe you could use a sulfate free shampoo (i use one).

As for the ph balance: do you have to have it?
Multi-textured head! 3a w/ some 3c, medium to high porosity, medium to coarse texture, dry!

My current favorites: Suave naturals shampoo, Suave coconut, Organix argan and moroccan oil conditioner, GFTN, LALMG, FSG <3!!

Not a huge fan of CG :/
I'm going to look into some low poos. Not sure about the pH balancer though. I really like the smell! I would probably say yes because this is like protein on crack!

When I do a protein treatment, I use a clarifying shampoo (usually Elucence's, sometimes I use KC Come Clean as I find that hugely cleansing with a small amount, and once I used the Jane Carter Solutions poo). Then the protein with heat. then a deep condish with heat.

You don't have to use their shampoo, but one that leaves the strands clean to "take" the protein is good. You don't have to use their post-protein condish. Some ladies here use a CG friendly deep condish after the aphogee protein tx.

If you find Tresemme stripping, try keeping a bottle of Elucence clarifying around just for when you do protein treatments or have build-up. Or do a forum search for recommendations for a gentle clarifying lowpoo.

I love the aphogee two step treatment, it literally saved my hair after a stylist went bleach crazy with it! I use it once a month since a lot of people said not to use it more than every six weeks. Although, if your getting good results with it once a week I might try using it more often.

I've never used the aphogee shampoo or the recommended condish and my hair turns out great anyway. I do use a low poo like kc cc or deva sometimes just a cowash to clean it first. For a deep treatment I use olive oil, honey, tigi mm, and kenra moisturing condish mixed together. Anything that is moisturizing for your hair is good because when using a hardcore protein treatment you must replenish the moisture in your hair. HTH

Mircurls: I think I will look into some low-poos (my boyfriend laughs every time I say this!). I was thinking about trying some baby shampoo. What do you think? I'm kind of following a modified CG routine, however, my usual co-wash and rinse outs conditioners are CG. So, I want a low-poo that is fairly cheap because I'm not using it all the time on my hair.

Mabbott: I'm glad someone else uses "food" on their hair. I told my friends that I did this and they thought I was weird! I guess what bothers me most is buying both the protein and condish and not using the condish. I feel like I'm wasting money, even though it's like 1$!
