I started using Matrix curl enhancing shampoo & extra deep conditioner a few months back & I love them both.

Default I do...

usually every day. I don't use a lot of shampoo, a little goes a long way. But, I just can't imagine not using shampoo, I guess I'd have to try it. I've been using Pureology since June and I'm still on the same bottle, I love it, wonder if I'll ever switch?

Some days I condition wash using VO5 Kiwi Lime, some days I shampoo using Giovanni 50/50. When I do use shampoo, it's on the scalp only. I've found that if I don't cleanse in some way, my hair quickly starts looking dull and filmy even though I only use products that are CG-friendly. When I do cleanse, I have bouncy, shiny curls.

It is nice to see so many that do shampoo on this board! I, like others, have gotten lots of advice from the board over the years but I did often wonder if I was one of the few not on the CG rountine! I also tried it but it made my hair look horrible. Too much condition. I have tried over the past few years to use only CG products, but I wash my hair every day. Lately my hair has been acting up and I have wondered if I am been too strict? Did my hair look better years ago before I started all of this? If I am wahing every day, do I need to be so careful?

Thoughts anyone?

I am also trying to fins a new shampoo to use that is not real drying but that would clean my hair. Not sure if I want to go the non-sulfate route or not. It seems a lot of you like Elucence as a Poo, is that right? Any thoughts you can give on sulfate vs non-sulfate. Why I would choose one over the other?

Thanks!

To me the products seem to be pretty important. To find the right ones for YOUR hair.
I think some people can use sulphates and get awat with nice hair and others can't. I would suggest just trying out products and see what happens. Elucence shampoo is a good one to try. It was a tad harsh to me, but well worth a try.

I'm all suds paranoid now buuuuuuuuuuut come summer I bet Creme of Nature and EMBS will be my friends again.
Creme of nature is a bit gentler at least in my hair but the embs cleans better if you have buildup.
My hair hates to be weighed down so it would rather have the occasional sulfate than none at all ever.
Everyone's hair is of course different and hey even mine is ever changing and I have to switch things up.
That's what makes us such product junkies.

I am trying to understand the sulfate thing. If I use products that are all CG friendly then I would not have build up, is that correct? That I should (by theory) be able to successfully use a sulfate free poo? Would that be right? Is that why most of you, who do shampoo use a sulfate free one? because it is gentler on your hair? Is that the point? Thank you for your help I am just trying to understand this

I did have some leftover Low-Poo from when I tried CG and I tried that again and it does not seem to work well for me. Has anyone tried several of the sulfate free and found any that work really well, that clean well?

As for a regular Poo..Have any of you tried TIGI Honey and Oatmeal? I think that is CG friendly from a few posts I read?

Thanks again!

Yes you have it down. You don't need sulfates if you don't use cones.
Low poo has the A cone in it. I don't like it as well as the no poo.
I don't in general like a cleanser that seems to leave more than it takes out. Anything that has cones or too much oil is too much for my particular hair but everyone's hair is different.

Now if you want to use cones just use a more gentle shampoo that still removes them. Unless you're hair is like some and seems to need the sulfates to keep an even keel

I shampoo every day too using a sulfate-free poo. Two or three days a week I will use Elucence (mild sulfate). I think it's just my body chemistry-if I don't poo every day my hair just smells "dirty". I tried CG but my hair is way too fine to have conditioner near the roots for whatever reason.

I do occasionally - maybe once or twice I week I use Kiss My Face whenever shampoo. No sulfates. Just CO washes wasn't doing it for me . . . I felt like I had build-up. Whether it was physically accurate or more of a psychological need for shampooing, I'll never know. So, as long as I avoid products with dimethicone, I find I have no build-up issues.

I shampoo 2 - 3 days a week. Right now I'm using something by Pantene, and Aussie's Moist Conditioner to condition. I find using shampoo gives me better looking curls.

What's a good clarifying shampoo or product remover shampoo to use perhaps weekly that you can buy at the drugstore? I shampoo every 3-4 days, use devaCurl OneC. Not really finding the conditioner slippery enough, even when I leave some in. Also using HE Totally twisted gel.

I use elucence clarifying shampoo when I need to clarify. They have a moisture balance shampoo that's nice too.
If you were no cone at all then something like activate shampoo or creme of nature would do fine since you wouldn't need the sulfates.

I was using my good ol' mop for a while, but the winter stuff was really building up too fast, especially with my new too shea, so yesterday I (gulp) used sulfates for the 1st time since september, and my hair was sooo shiny.

ETA: I don't use cones.

Yeah I had to scrub my hair off today and boy did it bounce back nice. It's a balance for me, too much and my hair goes flat on top and looks dry (too much sulfate) too little and my hair gets frizzy and flatter and won't seem to hold curl.

It's warming up again so my hair is more sensitive to over conditioning bah

I'm going back to shampooing with something sulfate-free.. I have EMBS in my cart right now! I appriciate what CG has taught me about the condition of my hair, how to style it, and the ingredients that will harm it but I really just don't feel clean if I don't shamppo it once in a while. On CG I still end up with a little bit of build up and the get the occassional greasy day which is not appriciated! I've also ended up with some dry scalp issues even though it is quite oily, weird! Perhaps that is linked to using a cheap COwash, but using as much CO that I need to wash it just isn't realistic to purchase something expensive.
