Hairs In Front That Won't Curl

Hello All,

I have 3a/3b curls and I have been CG for almost 3 months now. However, because I was such a slave to my flat iron prior to going CG, a few strands of hair around my face will not curl. Mostly my bangs and a few face framing layers I had cut last year. I got most of the heat damage cut off when I went for a DevaCut in January but not all of it could be cut off. Luckily, as the roots grow I can see healthy curly hair emerging, but the lower ends of the strands are still damaged. What can I do to coax these strands into curling? I've tried hair rollers but they don't work very well and the curl that forms is looser than my natural curls.

Any advice? Thanks!

1. Protein treatments. They might give your hair a strength + curling boost.
2. Using a hard hold produc such LALSG.
3. Scrunching/other styling techniques listed on the Techniques sticky.
4. Two strand twisting/braiding
5. Pin curls

There are tons of tutorials for 4 and 5 on YT.

Unfortunately, because the proteins in your hair have been denatured, there is a limit to how much you can "coax" them into curling. Maybe these methods will help some until you finish growing out the damage. Good luck!
