Hair underneath grows straight! HELP!

Hey curlies!
I really need your help.I have a full head of curls that have no problems well being curly and full. The problem is I have a couple of strands that are pin straight underneath for no apparent reason. My hair is styled in long layers so the straight part which is underneath looks even more obvious. I very rarely straighten my hair because I love wearing my curls loose and straightening it is so time consuming and damaging. I went to the salon and they all told me the hair is perfectly healthy. No one seems to know why my hair does this!I try curling it with a curling iron, the curls fall right out and are very loose to begin with, I try scrunching it, they dont scrunch, I try pinning it up but its obvious the pin is there. I have run out of ideas! Sorry this is so long but I have no other ideas! Any help? Please?
I have same problem! My hair is 3a/b but underneath totally straight or little bit wavy after diffusing, but unfortunatelly I do not know any solution for that. I have never figured it out, it is just the way they are, I have to accept it...

but I recommend trying to diffuse your hair with head upside down )it really helps) or just pin the top layers and leave bottom layers to dry without the pressure from top hair.

Good luck!
3a/b fine, ii, normal porosity I think...

Ugh I also have the same problem! Yesterday I tried using my regular curl cream and gel, then sprayed some hairspray in my hands and scrunched it all in. Then diffused. It seemed to kinda work, but my hair was slightly crunchy =/ But maybe give that a shot? You never know.
Congratulations! Like most of us, you have a varied curl pattern. Unfortunately, it's more varied for some of us than others.

Most of my less curly hair is in the underlayer. What works best for me is to apply a curl cream before applying any gel. I try to get it in the least curly areas. Sometimes a less curly section will pop through, the rest, so it's more obvious. Reading your post made me think that maybe I could try putting curl cream on those locks of hair once they'd dried, and become more obvious.

I think that some of the reason I see less curl in the lower layer is that it's not as long as the rest of my hair, and it's 3A. I know it will fall into ringlets once it gets long enough, but it takes a long time to see notable growth in hair as curly as mine. It is starting to jump up now and look like it belongs with the rest of my hair finally, so that's progress.
Peace,
Morgan

I have the same problem, it's so frustrating! No matter what I do, though, I can't seem to get it to curl at all. Yeah, try diffusing upside-down, it seems to help a bit. The tip about clipping the top layer of hair up sounds good, I think I'm going to try it, I'll let you know how it goes.
I have this problem as well. But with mine the under hair starts off curly or at least wavy and then as the day goes on or my 2nd day hair the underneath is straight. My hair is halfway down my back when it's straight so it is crazy noticeable.

I believe the under hair is just a lot more delicate and therefore didn't take too well to the years of straightening (though not often), coloring (which I haven't done in 2 years) and being chemically straightened (which I've done twice in my life).

My only fix for this is to get the straight parts cut shorter than the rest of my hair. I figure since it's only the underneath you wouldn't even notice they were straight if they didn't stick out under all the rest of the hair by 2-3 inches at times. Lol. So I've tried explaining this to my stylist 3 times, they haven't gotten it right yet, but I'll keep trying cause it makes sense to me.

Currently using:
co-wash - Suave Coconut
rinse - (once a week) Bragg ACV
conditioner - GVP Conditioning Balm
leave in - Kinky Curly Knot Today w/ Honey
microfiber towel, wide tooth comb (sometimes) and air dry!
all that = HAPPY CURLS!
You guys are lucky. My hair is the reverse. From straightening my hair for so long my front pieces are straight for about 3 1/2 inches and then turn into a slight wave. I've tried skip curling them, scrunching, pins, and diffusing. None of it has worked. I don't even know what to do with them anymore.

My hair if I comb it after my shower is straight at the top until about my ears and then curls, which is ridiculous but it's always been that way. Since I started the CG method most days I will rinse my hair upside down and finger comb it then and then scruch it try with a cotton tshirt and then and only then is my hair curly at the top. It looks so much better that way too... Then I don't get triangle hair as well. Lol. Hair can be such a pain sometimes.

I also have a varied curl pattern. I have large s-waves on the top, and super tight ringlets underneath, and curlier on the right side then the left It's truly annoying, and I almost wished it were the other away around.. oh well.

First, hair cut seems to help - I have shorter layers on the crown section so that the waves can curl up more and blend better, while also allowing more curl underneath show - if that makes any sense.

Then, I also scrunch, skip-curl or otherwise twist those sections to encourage curl. Some days it works, others it doesn't.

If I am really desperate, I just got at the straight pieces with a curling iron. This isn't any everyday thing, but with the right size iron, it really blends in with my natural curl pattern and makes my hair looks amazing.

I have seen on a YT video where someone use a fat straw - the the ones you get with pearl teas, to twist stubborn sections and they looked perfect - I am going to try that. It seems to look better then twisting around the finger because you can be more controlled about it.

Otherwise, what usually do it find a way to style it to hide then less curly part by pinning the front back, or doing twists with the front pieces and pinning them, creating a half up do.
Like many of the above posts, I too have the problem of my underneath layers of hair being straightish (just a very slight wave.) It has improved slightly since I've gone CG, I don't know whether this is just a coincidence, but it is annoying all the same!

I have the same thing! There are random peices at the nape of my neck, and behind my ears, that simply refuse to curl. My stylist cut them shorter than the rest of my hair... the only problem is that they appear to grow faster than hte rest of my hair so I have to keep cutting them shorter.

The only thing that seems to help is using gel and scrunching. And even then, by the second day they are back to being their limp little selves....
type 3a/b, baby fine to medium, normal to high porosity except the canopy which is high.

recently chopped off about 4" - HOW LIBERATING!!! Learning to love my hair again instead of hating it for being a knotty mess.
I have the same problem! I either try to twist the stupid straight pieces into the nearby curls, or curl them with the hairdryer... like wrap the hair around my finger and dry it like that.
