To THIN or not to THIN?

I have really thick hair, like many of you out there.
I thought it was just logical that my hair would "work better" if it were thinned. But I read on this site that you should RUN from a stylist who pulls out the thinning scissors. ???
It feels so much more manageable when it's thinned-a lot! They say it invites more frizz. How does that work???

-Mostly 3A, though wavy if not enough moisture (like when I lived in CO.).
-High dew point gives large ringlets, though smaller & tighter coils at neck.
-Med. texture, high density, normally porous?
-sulfate free, silicone free baby!
-searching for good stylers (but can't purchase living in China! must wait till summers to buy in US)
Per Struttswife, one of our own who's an expert curl cutter and a wealth of good advice:

". . . . I know this style of cut has its supporters who think this is an appropriate way to cut curly hair, but I am not one of them: I've corrected too many haircuts that were done this way on unhappy clients to believe otherwise. And it goes without saying that any stylist who uses thinning shears or a razor on your curly locks should be tarred, feathered and run out of town!"

Even without this, a lot of us have just learned from hard experience to avoid thinning shears and razors. Layers, yes, but not thinning as most stylists mean it. It can be damaging and just makes hair bushier as it grows out - all sorts of little twigs sticking out.

WOW-I've never heard it explained like that. OK then! Maybe that's why i hate my cuts when they grow out! (it was also by someone who doesn't speak english, translated by someone else, so it's likely to not be right, but i have no other choice here in china!) It's as hot as the blazes & so flippin' jungle-like here that thinning sounds like such relief! Last time I told him MORE THINNING PLEASE!!! He just kept going & going & going & I was very happy then...
Shute!!
