Any mixed girls (black/white) 3b here?

Hi,

I'm transitioning (hair properties in my siggy), and I know that this is kind of a dumb question, but I was wondering if there are any 3b mixed girls here in the forum?

As I look at my natural hair as it grows in, it looks to me like 3b, but maybe it's 3c--I think I just have a hard time believing after so many years of relaxing that maybe I had 3b hair all along.

I believe at this point that my "bangs" (my stylist cut my bangs dry and curly but even when I was wearing my hair straight I never felt that she cut enough hair into the bangs so it's really like two or so curls, unless I'm just not pulling them down enough) are all natural, and they form a silky spiral curl, but the bang roots look tighter.

I know that a lot of people say that you will not know your real texture until your relaxed ends are cut off, but I believe they are all cut off from my bangs. Also, my "relaxed ends" aren't even straight--a relaxer hasn't gotten my hair straight in over five years. But when I really look at my hair, I think I can distinguish the natural from the relaxed, and I see either loose waves, or spirals that are pencil sized or maybe a tad fatter.

Anyway, I'd love to see some pics of mixed girls who are 3b. Not that I don't love all 3b girls, but just curious
Mostly relaxed, yet still curly hair, which I am going to try to grow out with daily conditioner rinses and a shampoo once or twice a week.

Officially Transitioning since March 2011.

Got some kind of curly bangs going here! And I think my bangs are all natural!

I think that my natural hair is somewhere between a 3b and a 3c, I hope it's not too soon to tell!
Yes! I am mixed. Black/Chinese mix on 1 side and white on the other. My last relaxer was in May 2009 and I started to offically "go natural" (stopped flat ironing) in November 2011. Once I found the right products and stopped damaging my hair with heat, I couldn't believe how easy it was to settle into a routine and care for my curls! Before I hated my hair - always thought it was too poofy or destined to frizz. I'm getting the last of my damaged ends cut off this Friday and can't believe the difference in my hair!

My hair used to stay fairly curly even when relaxed, but I really killed it with a couple years of constant flat ironing :\ After my last relaxer my hair was more wavy than curly. By about February of 2010 I could see start to see a 3a/3b mix and now that most of the damaged ends are gone I can see that I am at a solid 3b.

You mentioned that the roots of your bangs seem tighter than the rest...it may take a few months but as more hair grows in it'll be easier to see the curl pattern and determine the hair type.
3a/3b mix

Routine:
DevaCurl Low-Poo/No-Poo (alternate)
DevaCurl One-Condition
DevaCare Arc Angell
Plop!

Last Relaxer: 4/30/09
Went curly: 11/11/09

*Beat the flat-iron addiction and finally starting to enjoy my hair the way it is*
I'm irish black and gypsy
I sure don't look it. But whenever it comes up that I'm part black, people say that it makes sense "because of" my hair.
Lol

But yeah, I'm transistioning.

I had a texturizer for my 3b hair, which relaxed it . So yeah, it sucks and I'm trying to grow it OUT.

but its really hard.

My hair was about 1 or 2 inches when I first relaxed it.
Now ita probably 4-6 inches.

So its weird looking.

Lol

by the way, i just realized i last texturized my hair four months ago

my hair was so short it couldnt curl well in the first place, so the texturizer made my hair COMPLETELY relaxed and straight, almost like a Asian pop star.

very happy my hair has bounced back!!!(:

I used to be a 3b or a 3c - I'm not sure which, probably more of a mix. I sort of grew into a 4a/b. My hair started changing over gradually in my early teens. I'm not sure which I like better. I still have a patch of 3c that I actually have to work on to make in a 4.

My mom would have been classified as Caucasian Hispanic (though she had some native Car.Am.), with a blue-eyed papa of Spanish heritage (from a line of landowners who even owned slaves). Daddy had an African-Cuban papa and a white mama. He came out looking very much biracial, while his sister was pale and light-haired.

I got daddy's hair. Very curly, but also very soft/silky/and tending to be on the fine to medium side. He used to Brilliantine (older generations did that) and keep it short, but you could tell when it got longer and wasn't oiled up that it was very soft and quite curly and abundant.

Mama had "Indian" hair--I called it that. Very dark, very thick, very straight. She used to perm that gorgeous hair all the time cause she had a thing for curls. I thought she was nuts. My brother got her hair (why not one of the girls, so low maintenance that hair). Black, shiny, healthy, stick straight. Even in his sixties, that hair is shiny and thick and do you really think he deep condishes or anythign? NOOOOOO!

Middle sister was born blond and stayed that way for years. Her hair has some wave, but tends to straight. It's medium and very soft and silky.

Eldest sis (from mama's first hubby, who was an Afro-Cuban guy, cause, clearly, mama liked her men dark and curly and with plenty of blood from the Motherland) has her papa's hair. Coarse, very curly, abundant. She's 70 and has tons of hair density. Its curl pattern is the closest to mine of all our siblings in the US. My brothers in Cuba have hair more like daddy (ie, with curl), but eldest bro seems to have more coarse texture. I say seems since we've never met. Just photos and video, as he's never been here and I've never been there, but my parents and elder siblings have. Brother went there last month. But the Cuban-residing bros keep it short, so it's hard to tell HOW curly.

I'm 3b, with maybe some 3a bits. Depends on how much protein. ; ) I had abundant hair till hypothyroidism stole 1/3+ of my density and dried to heck and back. But good CG treatment has restored a lot of moisture and elasticity. Still not dense, though.

Why not just post a pic of your hair so we can see what you're describing?

In a pic, my relaxed hair is gonna look a lot like my natural hair. But I'll try my best when I take a pic to show close to the roots.

Also, I'm noticing, that I can easily pull and loosen my curls so I wonder if that affects my interpretation of them. Yesterday morning/this morning (it's after midnight here) the roots on one part of my bangs looked nappy as hell (please all spare me the lecture on the word nappy) but now they look fine.

Ughhhhuhhahhh--stuff like this is what made me just wanna shave my head and buy an expensive wig to transition!

Okay let's see if this works, I left iPhoto and went to Keynote and exported as a PDF. Was too lazy to take a pic so here's one from Feb with my face blocked off.

First Pic:
This is my hair when I went to the Auto Show in February. I believe I had let it dry some wrapped in my silk pillowcase then put some KCCC on it.

Second Pic:
Also the day of the auto show.

Third Pic:
Last June, 3 months before my last relaxer, sadly this was also my last date (to date) and I took pics cause I figured why waste makeup? LOL rarely wear it. Styled with KCCC but not wrapped in the pillowcase.

Fourth Pic:
Last June, but I don't think I had any products in it at the time, or it was like second or so day hair.

Hiiii everyone,
My mom is white and my dad is black, and my hair is 3a/3b. I'll include a picture - it's certainly difficult to deal with at points, and I've had a love-hate relationship with it, but I haven't ever relaxed it and I hate straightening it. That being said, I like straight hair on me but I feel so bad when I do straighten it.

People always say that I don't have "mixed-girl hair," whatever that is, but I'm happy to hear about you other 3a/3bs!!!

Is this 1850? Are quadroon and octoroon even acceptable terms anymore?

Kiva! Microfinance works.

Med/Coarse, porous curly.
no. they aren't. BUT HEY, I could be wrong. I mean, until now I didn't know people were still referred to as "gypsy." According to wikipedia that term can be used to name to quite a few 'ethnic groups.'

Actually, the first time I heard the word used in a conversation was in a movie called "The Landlord" in which a rich young white man decides to buy a bunch of slum apartments in the ghetto so he can evict all the black tenants and turn a profit. Beau Bridges was in it. Here: I found the clip where "octoroon" shows up. On some websites, this movie is categorized in the Blaxploitation category...
