I think I will reach waist length curly in about 4 or 5 more years. My hair is armpit length curly and the longest layer is less than 6 inches from my waist when stretched/straight.
As my hair has grown longer, I wear it up a lot more than I used to, in buns and ponytails usually. More hair is definitely harder to deal with.

I had mid back length 4 months ago and I noticed cuz I was useing cheap products, that my hair was breaking so I cut it shoulder length. It took about 4 years to get mid back length. I regret cutting it but it was worth it. Now I use proffesional products and cut my ends every 6 weeks. Hopefully my hair will grow faster and healthier, I want tail bone length. My hair is a 3c but thin, wavy, curly, kinky, straight, all in one. mix nationalities, mix up hair, :-P lol

update
I just wanted to post an update too. I'm pretty happy with how my hair is growing and i'm pretty happy with how my curls are looking right now. I found some cheaper products that I like and can use. I actually straightened my hair recently because I wanted to see how long it actually was. Im posting a picture of my progress below...one is a picture of my hair curly and the other one is straightened...i think its grown a lot since i cut it in may. Thanks!

My hair is 3c and is to the middle of my back. If it was straight it would be waist length. My hair grows really fast! I'm actually trying to find a shorter hairstyle that would look good on me. The problem with my hair is that I need to have it long to weigh it down. When its short, it gets so much BIGGER. I have really long layers in my hair right now. Any suggestions on a cute shorter hair style?? I want a change and feel like I don't have any options.

Have wondered if AMOUNT of hair has anything to do with ease in growing hair long. Just about everyone in my family has obscenely thick hair ... as in, enough to give you a headache just looking at it. The downshot is it can take far too much time to deal with! The upshot may just be it more easily grows longer ... My theory is lots of densely packed hair might offer some level of protection from damage. The "elements" (like wind/sun) often can't penetrate all of it at once, and chemical "treatments" might not fully penetrate of all hair at any one time, leaving it less damaged over time.
Not sure, but I think I'm some combo of 3b, 3c and 3a ... for whatever that may or may not be worth in answering your question. My mother, who is Afro-Caribbean, has this amazingly thick 4a mane that grows super fast, despite her constantly straightening it (press iron). She completely abuses it but it's so resilient! It's been half-way down her back many times. My father - before going bald LOL - had super thick Ashkenazi Jewish hair, which grew quickly. I think familial genetics plays a part in length set-point.
I'll try and find some pics of my hair when it was waist length (while curly). It grows like weeds, which isn't always so great: the Diva cut I just got has already grown out and so I'll need to dish out all that doe yet again to keep my desired shape Also, if I don't keep up with layered cuts, I literally get migraine headaches from the weight of my hair from when I put it in ponytails or bands

You hit the nail right on the head: really long hair can be so much more of a hassle than short hair ... unless it's in top condition and it's all one length, so that it's easy to style. Problem is, all one length can get really REALLY boring.
You hair looks cute! You make me miss having short hair. Less product, generally less work, less time spent on it, and it can look just as good as long hair IMO ... You're making me consider chopping it LOL I guess the grass is always greener

Until recently I have kept my hair few inch. pass BSL, and kept triming cuz I thought Longer hair would be too much hassle, but I have such a simple rotuine now, I think I am at the point where I can handle it.
I think dry Mid back Length would be good for me, so I would have to get to waist lenght due to shrinkage
Is there talk of a 3c growth challgene?

I am about an inch above WL stretched (about APL curly). I should be at WL by the end of the year at the latest. I would love to have BSL curls so that means I will have to grow my hair to about hip length.

That's a tricky topic to answer. Some people say there's no way to make your hair grow faster. The argument is that your hair's growth rate is fixed no matter what and there's nothing you can take or put on your scalp to make your follicles produce hair faster. So all you can do it take care of your hair as best you can and make sure you're preserving your ends.
On the other hand, a lot of people have said they've noticed increased growth with various methods. Some include hair vitamins, biotin, castor oil massages, and some others. Try doing a search for "faster growth" on the forum and see what you come up with. Just do some research and decide what method you think will work best for you and your routine.

Lol its more then possible for you to reach your goal of waist length I wish you nothing but blessings on your new journey. =D Now when you say waist length do you mean straight hair or curly hair? One lady that I've seen with past waist length (curly hair) is Teri Laflesh she's totally awesome I love her & her book,(Curly Like Me) now mind you in this journey not everyone's methods will work for you just because you and another party has 3c curls but you can twist and rarely the techniques to make it your own I dream of having waist length hair (literally last night lol) I think I'll achieve that goal next year.
I'm mbl right now (straight, actually when I just pull my curl in the shower) my ultimate goal is to reach hip length curly I'm only going to straighten it two times when my hair is waist length curly and hip length curly just my own personal preference lol but best of blessings to you and your new journey chica!

I must say I enjoyed reading this thread and im learning that as my hair gets longer my initial "hunger for length" is not as intense as it used to be.. dont get me wrong.. i still have day dreams about swinging a full head of long curls around.. but I saw some ladies mention they wanted WL hair curly... Im like... thats preeeeettty close to a fairytale length when stretched.. im not sure Id want to deal with THAT much hair.. lol....but who knows where the curly wind will take ya!

I just straightened my hair for the first time in a while and I'm about 6 inches away from waist length (when did that happen???). My hair shrinks to slightly above my shoulders while curly, so I'm realizing if all goes as planned, this time next year I'll be at waist length, but if I'm lucky my curls will only be shoulder length or maybe arm pit length.
Blame it on the cell phone...
