I can see why you would think that, but I've always had super long hair in high school and early college like almost hip length but it was very damaged ,from dye and major heat so I am very use to dealing with very long hair, granted curly hair is a bit different but I love & cherish my hair so I wouldn't mind putting in the hard work & effort

I love all the info on this threas so I decided to revive it. Update.... Straightened last month for the first time in a while. My hair is past WL but not quite TBL yet. When its curly its still hangin out around SL/APL.....sighs..... Ive learned to deal though, maybe my curls will never touch the top of my butt like I have always wanted, but they are healthy and happy. How ia everyone else's hair doing?

Thanks for the update @curledlove and congrats on reaching WL. My hair is now officially APL! I've never had arm pit length hair before so I'm ecstatic. I don't have any spit ends and my hair seems to be doing well. I just did a deep conditioning treatment last night so it's nice and strong and moisturized.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned the Greenhouse Effect in this thread, but I've reincorporated that method in my routine. Basically, the GHE is a method that involved sleeping with moisturized and sealed hair covered with a shower cap and two or three additional layers (satin scarf, bonnet, winter hat, etc) in order to create a hot, steamy environment for the hair. The excess heat is supposed to increase blood flow to the scalp, thereby causing the scalp to produce more sebum to promote hair growth.

It's been almost a full year since this thread was created, so how is everyone's hair doing? How much length were you able to retain?

I tried GHE once and woke up sweating so i havent done it again. Im currently doing overnight oil treatments on my scalp with JBCO the night before i wash. Makes my hair really soft but i dont know if its helping with growth.

It took me 4 years to get to this length btw.
Good luck with your growth journey!!

I'm going to grow mine out as long as it will get. Right now it's a little below bsl when straight but looks shoulder length barely (maybe twice as long as the pics posted here) when curly and fully dried. I'm 3c and I'm still in shock over the amount of shrinkage I get.

My hair has usually been heat trained to some degree until the last couple of years, so this shrinkage thing still catches me off guard. When it was waist length a few years ago it still looked pretty long when curly because my hair was so loosened by heat damage. When I'm waist length this go around it will probably still look shoulder length lol.

I had a co-worker years ago who wore her hair curly every day and it literally looked like a neck length bob. One day she came to work with it straightened and it was actually hip length. I'd never seen anything like that.

Shrinkage sucks.

If there's a growth challenge going on, I've decided I want in

But on the subject of shrinkage, how long does 3c hair have to get before it starts to get weighed down and shrinkage reduces...?

I am currently at shoulder-length when dry and almost armpit length when wet. I also want mine down to my waist.

Since men's shoulders and torsos tend to be much larger than ladies', I think it will take me much longer.

I'm with you! I want to be in as well. I'm new to the site but i'm an old school curly girl. I also have 3c hair with super shrinkage but I have been trying different stuff. I am also hoping that my hair will get heavy enough to weigh down. My hair is also a little below BSL when straight but at my shoulders or above when it shrinks. If I put clips at the ends, i can get it below the shoulders.

I have not had WL hair or close to it since i was a kid and my mom did my hair. I want to try to grow my hair out to WL when straight and BSL when curly. That would be amazing. Glad to join the club!

Yep, I don't think I could handle WL when curly - WL straight/BSL curly would be perfect for me! However, my hair is currently about BSL straight, and it's only just touching my neck when curly (crazy, I know)

I'm around apl when my hair is curly and touching wl when its pulled straight...at least that's what it looks like to me.

I have 3b with 3c hair so idk what id do if my curls were waist length...it would be a LOT of hair and would probably go to my knees when pulled straight. idk how id possibly comb all that hair lol.

My happy place is full mbl curly (probably gonna take another 2 years :/) but I'm gonna let it grow as long as it can.
