Default 3c's What products do you use for your twists/braids outs??

Hello again,

I wanted to try something different especially for the cold months.

I was wondering what products do you guys use to get a successful twist out or braid out result?? Leave-INs, creams, smoothies or what not?

Any suggestions are welcome!!

IF twists would stay in my hair, I would probably use shea moisture products like the masque or smoothie... because they work really well in my daughter's hair.BUT my twists just unravel. They fall right out. I don't get it. I'd need to use a rubber band on the end to keep them in and I don't want to do that.

Thanks for your advice! Besides the gel...does the mango butter hold your twists and seal the moisture??

I stopped doing wngs as soon as the cold weather arrived, but even when doing them, I did mine on a Sunday afternoon/evening and refreshed with a a little oil or butter throughout the week; I would get at least 5 day hair and I never had to reset or spritz my hair with water.

For my braidout & twistout styling I've used the following products as my styler: MJ Curly Merengue, MJ Curly Pudding and Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. After discovering the SMCES I pretty much stopped using the MJ stylers. Surprisingly I also got great results using Kinky Curly Curling Custard.

For the fall/winter since I want to use a heavier moisture laden product I've been using the SMCES but this week I am going to try the As I Am Twist Defining Cream when I do my twistout..........maybe I will do a braidout since its been a minute since I did one of those.

I use my styler over my leave-in followed by coconut oil so for me the leave-in + coconut oil + styler yields great braidout and twistout results.

I do plan to experiment doing twistouts and braidouts using a Shea butter mix (awaiting my Butters n Bars order to arrive so I can get to my second attempt at a whipped shea mix). I pretty much always do wet braidouts/twistouts so I'm also going to try a dry braidout at some point.

I live in cold cold Motown, so I was searching for moisturizing products for wintertime twist/braid-outs. Last night I used Curl Junkie Argan & Olive Oil Daily Hair Conditioner as a leave-in, Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream for moisture, and FOTE Aloe Vera Gel for hold, and my braid-out is beautiful today. Next time I'll try KCCC for hold.

I want to try Qhemet's Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter as soon as I run out of BRBC. I used to use MJ Curly Pudding and received great results, but it wasn't moisturizing enough. Plus, I'm switching my products to natural ingredients. Good luck!

I find that braid outs work much better for hair that can't hold twists. I'm very basic when it comes to product. Conditioner(suave, Vo5) and maybe a dash of ecostyler or kccc if i want extra hold.

The gel doesn't flake and it provides a soft yet firm hold, non the less elasta qp mango butter does hold my twist very well and seal in moisture. I love using these products together because it keeps my hair very soft and are great stylers!

I use the same thing for twists and braids..
a leave in and sealant.. sometimes the leave in is a lightweight conditioner like curl junkie smoothing or beauticurls, devacurl one condition then when it gets colder or I need more moisture I use a heavier one like curl junkie deep fix.. but I usually get the same results.

For a sealant I use an oil or butter depending, that affects my moisture retention more than definition though.
If you are worried about definition I think its more important to do them on wet/damp hair and take them out when theyre completely dry [they will frizz out and become less defined if not].. and that usually locks the style well enough for me!
